Tooth Extraction (Part II)

Today we are going to keep talking about that very common and avoided dental procedure: Tooth Extraction.

As we mentioned on our previous post, Tooth Extraction is not a painful procedure and should be taken care very seriously. On our last post, I gave some general information that should be helpful for all of us. So today I’m sharing some other information that I’m sure you’ll find it very interesting and helpful.

WHAT KIND OF TOOTH NEEDS TO BE REMOVED?

1. Tooth extraction is relative opposite to other treatment. According to the skills of the dentist, many teeth can be repaired and regained to their function. Situations where it is necessary a tooth extraction.

a) When any other treatment can't be done due to an advanced condition of periodontal disease.

b) When the teeth can't be repaired due to severe dental caries. But if the teeth root and gums situation is good, it is also possible to use a dental crown or overdenture so it's not necessary a tooth extraction.

c) When it is not possible a root canal treatment or other root or gums treatments.

d) Dental trauma due to injuries or subgingival fracture or root fracture that can't be repaired. Bones fractures on the line of the tooth must be treated according to every patients situation, because sometimes it is possible to preserve the teeth.

e) Shifting or impacted teeth if they affect the function or appearance of the mouth, if they cause sickness or traumatism, are usually extracted.

f) Impacted tooth causing dental caries or pericoronitis to the adjacent tooth, are usually extracted.

g) Supernumerary tooth that are malpositioned or affecting the function or appearance of other teeth should be extracted.

(Other treatments that require tooth extraction: Ortodontics treatments that require reduction of the number of teeth; for a proper restauration of some teeth, sometimes it is necessary to extract neighboring teeth; before radiation treatments to avoid a complication of the situation of already sick teeth; teeth with benign tumors or cyst)

Detained milk teeth must be extracted, however, in the adult dentition of deciduous teeth, below the non-permanent or permanent impacted, such as deciduous and there is no loosening function, it is not necessary to remove the teeth.

Teeth suspected of having certain dental diseases should also be extracted. Infected teeth causing local diseases such as mandibular osteomyelitis, maxillary sinus lessions, etc, should be urgently brought under control and when the acute inflammation or infection is controled, then the dentist should proceed to the tooth extraction.

My Dream Dental Clinic (Part II)

This is the second part of my very interesting blog article about My Dream Dental Clinic

5. Prices:

Although it is very common to say "Good and Affordable", this concept is often difficult to achieve. Although most people spend a lot of money on beauty treatments and shopping, not too many people can afford SPA treatments and luxury shopping. So my prices although a little bit expensive should also be affordable. After all, in a year, patients should only come to the dentist one or two times, so most patients are willing to pay the bill.

Just like when buying any merchandise, consumers want to pay the real value of a product. So who wants to see the old expired dentist materials? Shouldn't dentists give their patients the same consumers rights than any other establishment? Many people are very used to the traditional consumption rules, so most of the time they do not dare to ask questions. However in the modern dental clinics like in Joinway Dental clinic, all patients have the right to a detailed description of the materials and products used by the doctors. They have the right also to check the quality certificates as well as the whole detailed production process of the products.

6. Environment details:

I would love to have some movie posters and pictures on the wall, as well as some kind of costumers guestbook, so I can feel like at home. I wouldn't like to many paintings but a few very peculiar ones. May be a pair of Impressionist paintings, and even a pair of landscape painting. They should have an elegant taste and give people a sense of power. If possible, I even hope that the artworks are valuable.

Next to the TV set there can be some scattered African pottery, or some lights emitting art works.

A brown fabric sofa in the waiting room, next to some design magazines displayed in a magazines rack, as well as some other high-end magazines. Small pictures frames with some pictures of real costumers as some kind of guestbook, to give patients a sense of trust.

7. Front desk:

The receptionist lady should have a sweet voice and professional manners to answer the phone and to answer the patients questions. They should be beautiful and dignified women. She should help patients to take out their coats and put them away, they should also take care of their personal valuables and place their belongings in the right places.

They should be quick and accurate when billing patients. They should protect the clients privacy and when patients don't have money enough to pay for the treatment, they should be patient and wait for the patients to use their bank cards. When patients have trouble finding the way to the clinic or out of the clinic, they should be helpful and indicate them the way.
8. Ambiance:

The correct placement of flowers is very important, forever beautiful and vibrant plants can make people happy. The fragrance of Lilies makes people realize that the owner has exquisite taste.

Even when family members have forgotten, it will be a very pleasant surprise for the patients to receive a Happy Birthday card from Joinway Dental clinic. During season holidays also send them a greetings card. During consultation time, the receptionist won't harass the patients but timely remind them of their appointments.

The receptionist should also prepare always some unique music for each patients nationality, age, time of the day, treatment stage... That way the patients will feel a warm feeling of preparation especially for them.

What else do I have to say? I just hope that you enjoy my dental services, you feel at home and in a friendly environment. And I hope that the patients can also join the clinic employees for their activities which won't only be dentist related parties.

My Dream Dental Clinic (Part I)

For a long time I have dreamt of a dental clinic, where I would put all the things I like together and of course, with the passing of the time I would add some other elements. How would that clinic be?

First of all, I would love for the staff to be cordial and gentle; women in my clinic to be beautiful and fashionable; men are generous and handsome. I hope all the employees have a good working background and learning experiences. Their uniforms should be very fit and clean.

Second of all, the clinic environment is very important to be, it should be too extravagant but simple and relaxing, with a very spacious waiting room, where patients and companions can watch TV. The waiting room should be something like a Starbucks room, where there's always warm coffee. For those who drink juice or tea instead, there will always be some available too. The whole idea is to to make people waiting feel comfortable and taken cared of...

The clinic location is a very important matter. I do not want it to be next to the road, but I would prefer a hidden elegant place. However I would make sure that the place is easily accessible and with parking available.

Besides all that, the clinic should be complete and professional facility, because in dentistry the differences between different kinds of facilities and materials are very wide. For instance, when the patients lie on the dental chair, their neck should have a full support, so even if the treatment takes a long time, they won't feel uncomfortable. Also on the X-ray area, there must be very good protection of the radiations.

Strict disinfectation will be without any doubts one of the clinics strongest points.

After the treatment completion, the doctor will give a summary of the mouth situation to the patient, and set up an individual file for each patient, with all the treatment information and endoscopic image set, together also with all the personal health information and consent forms. At the end of the visit, the doctors will politely accompany their patients to the door or elevator.

Other clinic requirements:

1. Appointments:

Timely appointments do not require too much waiting. When because of work reasons patients can't arrive to the clinic on time, or require some emergency service, the dentists would also try to satisfy the patients wishes because they are their private doctors.

2. Language:

I would expect all the employees to speak standard Chinese language and fluent English language or another foreign language.

3. Restrooms:

For the women's restroom, there should always be some available magazines to read, like American Fashion magazines. Washrooms should have enough light, aroma of perfume and some light relaxing music. Clean, disinfected, and warm towel towels, are essential goods. On the corner should be a basket of female supplies, like hand creams, body lotions as well as a very clean cosmetic mirror.

Male and female toilets must be separate. In the men's toilets, the walls may be framed with humor and some sexy pictures. There should be men magazines like "Men Fashion" or something like "Interesting Small Jokes Compilations". There must definitely be an ashtray, and some extra cigars or cigarettes and some interesting lighters. A large wall mirror is also very important.

Disabled patients toilets will be independent, with handrails to help them. Someone can help at any time, if called by a light switch inside the toilet.

4. Consultations:

When patients lie on the dental chair, they can better watch some television or listen to MP3 music, if they are afraid of the apparatus noises. When patients are afraid of the treatments it can be more relaxing to listen to their favorite music. Like many patients, especially women are afraid of the pain, there must be a doctor or nurse always available to hold their hand while doing the treatments.

Men are usually more afraid than women, they just don't admit it for not losing face. The very brave battlefield winner, would get full of cold sweat just when seeing the doctors holding the needles. Therefore an important job of the doctor is to protect their faces, encourage them to do the treatment and walk them through the whole process, explain them details like they do with children. A better understanding of the procedures should help them relax better feel less afraid.

Children are like a white piece of paper, their first visit to the dentist, will form their entire impression of a dentist. So first, the dentist should become their friend, to play a bit with them is quite important. There should be some of their favorite toys like Teddy Bears, Kitty Cat, Snow White as well as some spacecrafts and some other comics. Doctors should talk to them about their favorite comics, promise them some chocolates or lollipops if they are obedients. Nurses should also play with them, hug them and make them feel loved. At the end of the consultation, doctors could take pics with them to hand on the wall.

The next time, he'll definitely remember the consultation time better than his mom. When treating children, doctors should try to make the treatment time as short as possible. They should also start from the simple to the most complicated procedures.

Tooth Extraction (Part I)

Many of us just go to the dentist when in pain, sometimes we are so afraid of the pain that we might feel when we go to the dentist, that we prefer to bare our own toothache or we wait till our cavities start hurting and it’s usually too late.
There are many dental procedures that help fix our cavities or our infections and tooth accidents. But when there’s no other option, most dentists opt to realize a tooth extraction procedure.
Contrary to what most people think, it is not necessarily a painful procedure. With the use of anesthetics and “happy gas”, this can be a completely pain free procedure.
Also contrary to what most people might think, tooth extraction should be first discussed with your dentist, there most be a clear understanding of the details and risks factors. From today I’m creating a series of 3 small posts with some information about tooth extraction that you might find interesting and useful.

Tooth extraction information:
1. After the tooth extraction, the patient must bite the medical gauze or tampon on the wound for at least half an hour. During the next 24 hours, the patient might see some small blood traces on the saliva, this is perfectly normal, and the patient shouldn't worry about it.

2. After a tooth extraction the patient can be an semi-lying position, but is it nor recommended to lie on the flat position. The patient shouldn't take hot shower immediately after the extraction, to avoid bleeding.

3. After the extraction the patient shouldn't eat or drink for at least 2 hours. The patient can however drink liquids or half liquid food. The patient should avoid hard or hot food.

4. The day of the extraction you should not play any violent sport or do any kind of physical labor, you should not drink alcohol, you should not play any kind of musical instrument, you should not suck or rinse your wound.

5.) When the anesthetic's effect disappear, the extraction area might present some discomfort and pain, please consult your doctor about the medication to take. If there's a hot feeling, severe pain, swelling out of the ordinary or bleeding please consult your doctor immediately.

6.) When a tooth is extracted from reasons different than third molar, overcrowded teeth or for orthodontics reason, usually doctors propose to put a provisional implant on the area. And it should be checked approximately 2 months after the procedure.

One Apple, Infinite Smiles

Apple is probably the most popular fruit in the world. I'm not the biggest Apple's fan in the world, but from time to time I really enjoy eating some.
It turns out, apple has many different health benefits. Apples reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes.

Apples are a naturally fat-free, saturated fat-free, and cholesterol-free food, and are an excellent source of fiber – both soluble (including pectin) and insoluble types. Apple is a fiber rich fruit and fiber lowers cholesterol levels in the blood, so the "bad" LDL cholesterol doesn’t get a chance to clog arteries where it might cause a heart attack or stroke.

Apples are also good for reduce cancer risk and reduces high blood pressure risk.

Apple are usually a part of every healthy diet and weight losing diets. It might be because apples’ fiber fills you up faster, so you eat less and feel fuller for longer.

But what it actually caught my attention is that apple can actually help your dental health.

Crunchy, juicy apples act like nature’s toothbrush, keeping teeth healthy and scrubbing away stains over time. Their rough, fibrous texture and natural tannins, chased with a rinse of water, make them ideal for cleaning and brightening teeth.

Not only apples are good for that matter, but carrots, radish, cucumber, orange, pear, beetroot, watermelon, etc.

Raw foods are also very good natural teeth cleaners, many doctors suggest to eat some raw food after every meals. This will help clean your teeth and gums due to high water content. However, after eating citrus fruits or juices, rinse your mouth with water, as the acids present in them can weaken enamel.

This information was very new and interesting to me. If you know of other healthy foods that can help us get a nicer smile, leave us a comment.

A Little Bit of Dentistry

Since one of the goals of my blog is to introduce you to different topics of dentistry, I think it's just right to introduce you briefly to a new tendency on dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry.
I'll explain in a few words, the main difference between traditional General Dentistry and Cosmetic Dentistry.

Traditional dentistry focuses mainly on oral hygiene, as well as preventing, diagnosing and treating oral diseases. On the other hand, cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person's teeth, mouth and smile.

We could say that restorative, general and family dental practices solve dental problems that require necessary treatments, while cosmetic dentistry provides elective -or desired treatments or services.

Just until a few months ago, I thought people just go to the dentist because they are in pain, or need a filling, a root canal treatment or some other kind of restorative treatment, but since working at Joinway Dental, I've learnt a lot and I've seen how more and more patients are walking into the clinic asking today for cosmetic surgery.

Then I realized that it actually makes sense, people are looking really hard every day to boost their self-steem, people worry about personal appearance now more than a few decades ago.
A beautiful smile, with sparkling white teeth and perfectly healthy mouth can make a very lasting impression on people around us, and can make us all very happy and confident.

So, although we have a very old concept of dentistry, I encourage you all to try some basic procedures so you can feel better and happy and make people around you happy.

If you have tried any kind of cosmetic dental treatment or if you have any information or questions about the topic, you are welcome to leave your comments on our comments section.
